Press trip to Paris

Na letališču me je pričakal osebni voznik in me v črnem Mercedezu odpeljal proti hotelu.

You can imagine my surprise, when I opened my inbox about a month ago. At first I wasn`t sure if it`s some kind of joke or not, but yeah: Atout France invited me on a 5-day press-trip to Paris! I could not wait, the saturday was hectic, as I had so much things to take care of at the last moment, and on sunday I finally sat on the plan and really started to fly towards the capital of France. This was my sixth time altogether, but this trip was on a totally different level. I was greeted by a personal chauffeur at the airport and he drove in a black Mercedes to my hotel right next to the Eiffel tower, beside the Champ de Mars. As we were driving along the Champs-Élysées I started to grasp it all. I was welcomed by a cute package in my hotel room and I must admit the huge bed seemed extremely enticing, but I just had to go out and explore the city - I was in Paris!!

Ulice nedeljskega dopoldneva so bile kljub turistom precej prazne. Na vogalu sta kramljali starejši gospe, vsaka s svojo bageto pod roko, lično našminkani in urejeni.

The sunday-morning streets were quite empty. Two elderly women were chatting on the corner, each holding her baguette, wearing lipstick and nice dresses. In a café next door a couple enjoyed their morning coffee and newspapers. A young lady passed me by on a bicycle and I cannot imagine someone more Parisienne. I smelled the spring air and tried to take everything in, almost jumping in excitement. The only thing missing was you.
A little out of breath (there are a LOT of stairs!) I climbed the Arc De Triomphe. I am amazed by the view every single time. All the grey-roofed chimney-projecting houses with the Montmartre in the distance, the modern La Défense and the one and only Eiffel tower.

V družbi novih prijateljic Alis (avtorice hrvaškega bloga Čitaj knjigu), Valerie (italijanske avtorice in novinarke) in Mette (avtorice najboljšega norveškega popotniškega bloga), s katerimi smo se resnično ujele, sem se počutila prav zares čudovito.
Tudi prihajajoči dnevi so bili nadvse nepozabni. Ponedeljek smo pričeli z ogledom, za javnost takrat še neodprte, razstave Rodin: the centennial exhibition v Grand Palais, nadaljevali z obiskom Musée d'Orsay in ogledom razstave Beyond the Stars. The Mystical Landscape from Monet to Kandinsky. Louvre of cinema.
V torek zjutraj smo obiskali musée Bourdelle in si ogledali razstavo Balenciaga, l’oeuvre au noir.

I finished the short excursion with a stroll by the Grand Palais, through the bustle of the Place de la Concorde, passing the Opera, to the Galeries Lafayette (you have to check out the view from its roof) and finally the hotel. I had to get ready for the evening gathering - we went to have dinner on a boat cruise on Seine river. Beside the great food, even better wine and the views of the city of light, I had a lovely time in the company of a few dozens of bloggers, journalists and editors from all over the world, hosted by the representatives of the city`s cultural institutions and national turistic organisations. I loved the connection I felt with my new friends Alis (croatian blogger - Čitaj knjigu), Valerie (italian author and journalist) and Mette (the author of Norway`s best travel blog).
The days to come were only getting better. We started monday by seeing Rodin: the centennial exhibition (then still closed for public) in the Grand Palais, went on to see Musée d'Orsay and the exhibition Beyond the Stars. The Mystical Landscape from Monet to Kandinsky. They served us an awesome lunch there too. We continued to the Louvre of cinema i.e. Cinematheque Francais. A rich collection of film history was followed by a visit in the centre of Georges Pompidou. With a glass of Moet in hands, we enjoyed the view of the city and the Cy Twombly exhibition. We ended the day with a ride in Citroën 2CVs, which took us to a gala evening at the Opera, where we listened to various speeches of the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, the minister of culture Audrey Azoulay, minister Mattias Fekl and Calera Pécresse, representative of Ile-de-France. That was followed by a concert of L.E.J. and as if that wasn`t enough, the night ended with a clubbing and catering in Opera itself.
Tuesday morning we went to musée Bourdelle and saw the Balenciaga, l’oeuvre au noir exhibition.

Then we went to the philharmonic hall and had a divine lunch on its roof in the Le Balcon restaurant. We were joined also by the marketing director of the philharmonic association. After that we saw Le 6B, where almost 200 artists is displaying their works.

Popoldne smo preživeli v Louvru ter si ogledali razstavo Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting. Po celodnevnem kulturnem udejstvovanju sem se mimo Palais Royal sprehodila do Colette, meni najljubše pariške trgovine s konceptom (poleg Merci, seveda).

We spent the afternoon in Louvre and saw the Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting exhibiton. After a whole day of culture I had to take a walk by the Palais Royal to Colette - my favourite parisian concept store (besides Merci, of course).

V sredo smo si najprej ogledali kraljevski Chateau de Fointainbleau, nato pa se sprehodili še skozi sobane palače Versailles in si v kraljevski restavraciji Ore poleg odličnega kosila privoščili čokoladno sladico, pripravljeno v čast Marie Antoinette.

On wednesday we saw the royal Chateau de Fointainbleau and then took a tour through the halls of the Versailles palace. In the royal restaurant Ore we had a wonderful lunch, topped off with a chocolate dessert they made in honor of Marie Antoinette.

We watched a modern dance spectacle Auguri, by Olivier Dubois in the Théâtre national de Chaillot and had a dinner on the top of Eiffel tower, where I realized I was in heaven for the milionth time that week.

Zasanjana in neznansko srečna, sem dan nadaljevala v svojem najljubšem predelu Marais in ga zaključila z odkrivanjem skritih kotičkov St. Germaina. V zgodnjih večernih urah, sem jo s škrnicljem Shakespeare & Co. in prikupno zbirko French love poems še zadnjič mahnila proti Bir Hakeim in odštevala ure do jutra, da se končno (kljub vsemu lepemu) vrnem k tebi.

Thursday I was free to spend as I liked. I took a morning walk through the calm of Montmartre, sipped some coffee and had meringues. I counted the blossoming cheries and magnolias, took photos of  the colourfull facades, accompanied by the street artists, that started to set up their outdoor art studios. I just admired everything around me. Daydreaming and endlessly happy I continued in my favourite part of the city: Marais and ended the day discovering the hidden corners of  St. Germain. With a Shakespeare & Co. paper bag with a lovely French love poems collection in it, I went to the Bir Hakeim for the last time and counted down the hours till I finally return to you.

Počaščena, da so v tujini odkrili Ljubeznice in mi ponudili priložnost, da zgodbe o Parizu delim z vami. V prihodnjih dneh sledijo podrobnejši zapisi in fotografije pariških doživetij, vesela pa bom, če boste z mano delili svoje najljubše kotičke francoske prestolnice, saj že pridno načrtujem naslednji obisk!

I am overjoyed to have been chosen for this really special trip. I am honored and flattered that they have discovered Ljubeznice and gave me a chance to share the stories of Paris with you, which I am going to do in the next few days. And I will be glad if you`re going to share your favourite parts of this beautiful city with me - I am already planning my next trip there!
